Site update

I’ve finally put out the minor layout adjustments I’ve been working on during the past few weeks. When I first released the WordPress theme some time ago, I left some unsightly holes in the UI. The theme has been rewritten from the ground up to patch up these inconsistencies and improve usability. This is the first iteration of the new layout and I’ll be continually tweaking it over time to achieve what I ultimately envisioned for this website.

If you have any comments and/or suggestions, feel free (as always) to drop me a line using the comment form below. I’ll be getting to the About-page ASAP.

Overdue site update

Howdy!

I finally put up the long overdue site update. As you can see (you may want to get out of your shell, if you’re a RSS follower), I’ve changed the way the site looks, again. I’m aware of the fact that some links have disappeared or have become broken. These issues will be resolved over the course of the following days.

Ace on Tech has been dormant for the past month or so, but this will change again, as I’ll be making more time to maintain the site more.

Breaking News Section Fixed

Since I introduced the new design, the Breaking News section on the homepage seemed to be failing. It would display the entry titles somewhat correctly, but the underlying URLs would be messed up. The problem here, I think, is the WordPress Plugin I’m using, which grabs RSS feeds and parses them from time to time.

I looked into the plugin’s code, but couldn’t find where things went amok, so I threw it out completely [for now]. Instead, I solved it with a bit of Javascript.

Links in the Breaking News section should be fully functional again now.

Ace on Tech Updates

In the course of the past few days I’ve been putting through a quite a few updates/tweaks to the website, the most important one being WordPress 2.3.2 (upgrade — it had only been a month, though). Functional changes up to date:

OpenID support has been enabled for comments. Contributions made by users with an OpenID will automatically be accepted, whereas normal comments will need to through moderation as usual. There’s still a bug which is preventing myOpenID from identifying, I’ll try to get this patched.
Lightbox provides a sleek overlay pop-up for displaying zoomed-in imagery.
Full XHTML RSS Feeds have been activated for easier reading. In the past, articles would get clipped off in plain text, forcing you to click through to the article.
Code syntax highlighting.
Social networking links at the bottom every post.
My ‘Ace on Tech’ WordPress theme is now fully widgetized.

Blog upgraded to WordPress 2.3.1

Finally got to updating this thing! I’m known to put stuff off I don’t like — into eternity. The announcement for this bug-fix release dated back 53 days, so it was high time to make some.. time for this maintenance. All went well and it wasn’t even a pain.

P.S.: The weird mumbo jumbo happening on the site a few a go was just me mucking around with some settings and plug-ins. These inconsistencies should be flattened out by now, though.
